Initiating Azathioprine for Crohn's Disease
Azathioprine (AZA) and 6-mercaptopurine are therapeutic options for patients with moderate to severe inflammatory Crohn's disease. AZA has both a complex metabolism and potential for adverse events that can be clinically challenging. AZA has been shown to maintain remission and reduce corticosteroid use in patients with Crohn's disease.

Safety of Cardiac Surgery for Patients With Cirrhosis and Child–Pugh Scores Less Than 8After adjusting for non–liver-related risk factors, patients with compensated cirrhosis (defined by CP score <8) can undergo cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass with no significant increases in postoperative mortality and morbidity. For this group of patients, comorbidities, rather than liver failure, appear to account for the occasional death.
